Life Travel Planners

"We have a choice: either we seek God and live by the laws of his Kingdom as Jesus taught in the beatitudes or else we worship money and live for consumption and the creation of a personal wealth." -- Brian Griffiths ("The Creation of Wealth", IVP 1984)
"...But it's also important to remember that it will do us little good to wire the world if we short-circuit our souls." --Tom Brokaw (Commencement Address; Stanford University--06/18/2006)

Welcome to Life Travel Planners! This is the final year ministry of VCF where we assist you in planning for the great challenges of your travels in life after graduation. Though it is a final year ministry... it is never too early to think about what happens after graduation! Read on to find out more about this exciting ministry!

About this ministry

LTP exists to:

  • To aid CFers to reintegrate smoothly back into church. As CFers are usually heavily involved on campus and this only lasts as long as their student life is, there is a need to prepare the CFer for any issues that he/she may face.
  • To aid CFers in their preparation for the working world. This begins as they enter into the university. They should start thinking about work while in school.
  • To create accountability amongst CFers prior to graduation. So that after graduation, there will be peer support amongst those in the working world.

Our Activities

  • Seminars

When: 2nd Fridays of the month (starting from September onwards)
Venue: Engin Bridge
Time: 6.30pm – 8.30pm
*Topics will be released nearer to the date

Come join in a time of prayer and fellowship (and food!!) as we seniors support each other through our final year in school. There will be an invited speaker who will expound on issues concerning life after graduation.

  • X-roads

Bearing no semblance to the Britney Spears film of the same name, this is a retreat that will be held over a weekend in the middle of the school semester on an FES level (see “Crossroads” below). It is important that graduating CFers are able to make use of the last semester or whatever remaining time they have to understand more about the theology of work and carefully consider their options after graduation. Opportunities are given for students to meet graduates in various working fields of their interest.

  • SPA: Stop, Ponder, Align

Also held at the FES level, this is a retreat in the fullest sense of the word...for CFers to intentionally carve out some time in the middle of the bustle that follows after graduation to reflect on their life goals so that they may align themselves to what God desires for them. SPA is held immediately after the examinations and prior to the rite of passage of resume -writing and interviews. For the curious, SPA is not a misnomer...it is deliberately named so because we are always very hopeful for the provision of a nice place WITH a spa. :)

Come join us! This is definitely not exclusively for final year students!

Testimonies of Past Seniors

Anya Foo
The word ‘retreat’ has taken on new meaning after this retreat. I learnt what it means to be still and the importance of penning down my reflections. There were many precious lessons about decision-making, biblical perspectives of working in the secular world and most important, faith.

April Ng
This camp granted me the opportunity to recollect the past. Quiet times of contemplation reminded me again WHO it is that is in control and whom I live for. The challenges given in the camp didn’t just exist at the thought level. The committee had planned it to be experiential. Hence, the lessons derived from it are likely to stay long. Sharing were weighed, carefully thought through and then written out in black & white. Re-visioning is important in order to keep that goal focused at each point/ stage of our lives. Lastly, this camp also painted a realistic picture of working life when the graduates came back to share. Their honest sharing of their struggles at work is a reminder of what it takes to stand your ground - to be faithful. This camp was an excellent opportunity for a closure of student life and an orientation for working life.

Timothy Choy
Final Year Retreat is like a diving platform. Before the diver leaps into the murky, deep waters, it is indeed necessary for one to pause and consider the way to jump and how to cope with the depths of the waters.

Ivy Chan
One lesson I learnt is to trust in God because he is our infinite God and not to belittle His infinite plan. We should always aim to achieve “eternity” and not be too caught up with the momentary problems. It is a good chance for all the different final year students to come together to share their fears, lessons and thoughts. The graduates that came down gave us greater and deeper insight to Christian survival. Being very relaxed and easy-going camp, it has allowed us to rest physically, mentally and spiritually.

Mandy Phua
I learnt new things about myself and was reminded of the place Christ has in my life. Knowing that I should let Him lead me in my journey is very different from trusting Him to lead me. It is useful to slow down and take stock of what’s happening in our lives before embarking on a new phase with new responsibilities. It is good to come to a retreat like this to do it because ordinarily, one needs a great deal of discipline to do it by him/ herself. In a sense, the programs of the camp “forces” us to sit down and reflect and to commit to God our thoughts and plans. It is a real luxury tonot think about getting things done and just resting in this day and age. This retreat affords this opportunity. Besides, interacting with those at similar point in life helps greatly, their perspective and all. Having the company of the graduates gave us invaluable insights to the working world that we’re able to enter into.

It’s never too late to think about life after graduation!
